Since June 1, 2023, Ville de Gatineau stopped providing English translations of Municipal Council agendas, citing obligations under Bill 96. This leaves roughly 33,000 English-speaking residents — 11% of the city's population — without accessible information about decisions that affect them.

Gatineau Decoded translates French-language council documents into plain English using AI, and publishes them here for free.

How it works

• Council agendas (PDFs) are downloaded from gatineau.ca
• Text is extracted and sent to Google Gemini for translation and summarization
• Each agenda item gets a plain-English title, 2–3 sentence summary, category, and significance rating
• The site is rebuilt and deployed after each council meeting
