Public question period

Louis Sabourin, city councillor Louis Sabourin is the city councillor representing the Limbour district of Gatineau. He asks the Toponymy Committee to reconsider its decision to name two projected streets in the Limbour sector "rue du Clocher" and "rue du Petit Séminaire". This decision, made in October 2023, followed a request from the Service de l’urbanisme et du développement durable (SUDD) to proceed with a designation related to a real estate development project totaling about thirty houses. The urgency to proceed with this designation faded when the real estate developer withdrew the project. Several toponyms in Limbour are linked to the collège St-Alexandre. There is a desire for more female toponyms in this sector. For this reason, he asks the Committee to prioritize the names of Lucia-Filion and Christine-Martin for the two projected streets.

Carole Dignard, citizen Carole Dignard is a resident of the Limbour district. She wishes to inform the Committee of the origin of the two proposed toponyms. She was made aware of the contributions of Lucia-Filion and Christine-Martin to the collège St-Alexandre by historian Michel Prévost and by the director general of the college, Mario Vachon. The latter has also submitted a letter supporting the request to commemorate the memory of Lucia-Filion. These sisters distinguished themselves by contributing notably to the college infirmary (Lucia-Filion) and to the founding of the Saga Maison des jeunes (Christine-Martin). She also asks to prioritize the names of Lucia-Filion and Christine-Martin for the two projected streets.

Marie-France Nadeau, citizen Marie-France Nadeau is also a resident of the Limbour district. She also asks the Toponymy Committee to reconsider its decision by prioritizing the names of Lucia-Filion and Christine-Martin for the two projected streets. In November 2024, she submitted to the City a list of names of women who have contributed to the advancement of Limbour, with the support of the Association des résidents du district de Limbour and the Saga Maison des jeunes. She also submitted, in December 2024, a request for a name change for the two projected streets to instead commemorate Lucia-Filion and Christine-Martin. The Limbour district lacks female toponyms. We welcome the Toponymy Committee's commitment to working toward more equitable and inclusive toponymy, notably by increasing the number of female toponyms in the City of Gatineau.
