Maison du citoyen

The council unanimously proclaimed the 25th anniversary of the Gatineau Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps (CCMRC) to recognize their contribution to youth development and community service. A flag-raising ceremony will be held at the Maison du citoyen on June 6, 2026.

The commission discussed upcoming attendance at the March 17, 2026, municipal council meeting and identified volunteers for the national gathering of young elected officials.

Council unanimously proclaimed March 4 to 17, 2026, as Ottawa Irish Festival Days and authorized the flying of the flag at the Maison du citoyen from March 4 to 10, 2026.

The Commission will collaborate with the Institut du Nouveau Monde for the National Gathering of Young Elected Officials. A sub-committee was formed to organize the Commission's participation, which will include networking and workshops at the Maison du citoyen and École secondaire de l'Île.

Council proclaimed November 17 to 23, 2025, as the 'Great Week for Little Ones' (*Grande semaine des tout-petits*) to raise awareness about early childhood development and the importance of accessible family services.

A citizen raised concerns about the future of Gatineau arenas, specifically the Baribeau arena, and the potential loss of the Magnus community garden. The Commission noted that a public information session on arenas is scheduled for September 25 at the Maison du Citoyen.

Council unanimously proclaimed November 2, 2025, as "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) and authorized the raising of a flag at the Maison du citoyen to mark the occasion.

Council has proclaimed April 20–26, 2025, as National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week. The City will fly a flag at the Maison du citoyen to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and encourage residents to discuss their wishes with their families.

Updates were provided on upcoming youth-focused events, including a networking day for student councils, the Adogatineau.ca tour, and the Génér-Action Climat workshop.

Author Andrée Poulin presented the 'Lectures en bibliothèque' project, which aims to have 11 elected officials read stories in Gatineau's 11 libraries on Valentine's Day to promote literacy. The Commission expressed enthusiasm and provided symbolic support for the initiative.

The Commission reviewed the 'Vélo-Transit' secure bike locker pilot project. Due to technical issues and low usage, the Commission recommended extending the current rental agreement for one year to allow for better promotion and further evaluation before deciding on a long-term strategy.

The commission discussed the 2024 BiblioQUALITÉ report, noting that Gatineau's library services are improving and addressing concerns from the Hull Island Residents' Association (ARIH) regarding library access and staff safety.

The City of Gatineau received a Silver certification as a 'Bicycle Friendly Community' and a Bronze certification for the *Maison du citoyen* as a 'Bicycle Friendly Organization'. The commission discussed recommendations for improvement, including better cycling infrastructure in parking areas and programs for immigrant communities.

The Commission acknowledged a letter from the Hull Island Residents' Association regarding library hours at the Maison du citoyen.

Elected officials provided updates on upcoming forums and summits, including the Living Together Forum and the homelessness summit, and noted an upcoming municipal council meeting.
